Chris Deephouse
Chris Deephouse' current passion for dance started with a contact improvisation class in 1992. Over the next 10 years, he studied with Jennifer Keller, Andrew Harwood, Nancy Stark Smith, Alicia Grayson, KJ Holmes, Chris, Aiken, Ray Chung, Martin Keogh, Leah Stein, and others. Meanwhile he branched out to swing, waltz, contra dance, and other social dances. He danced with Mixed Pickles Vintage Dance, under the direction of Bob Skiba. In 2003, he married contra dance caller Donna Hunt and has traveled with her to contra dance events in over 20 states, Canada, and New Zealand.
In Philadelphia since 1999, he is an enthusiastic follower of contemporary dance at places like FringeArts, Next Move, Mascher Space, and BalletX. For a few years, he was a house manager for FringeArts (Pig Iron: Welcome to Yuba City, Lee Etzold: P's & Q's, Kate Watson-Wallace: House). He appreciates a wide range of dance, from post-modern improvisation to works tightly choreographed to exciting musc. From quirky off beat pieces to circus arts and demanding physical theater.
Chris joined thINKingDANCE in the fall of 2014 as treasurer. As general manager, he looks after development, finance, and communications activities. He believes deeply in the mission and spirit of thINKingDANCE: to raise the ante on dance coverage and conversation.
