In a year that has seen some shocking losses to the infrastructure of the arts in Philadelphia, including the shuttering of the University of the Arts and the end of PhiladelphiaDance.org, having thINKingDANCE continue to document the field of dance in Philadelphia is more important than ever.

Your generous contribution to tD will support our indispensable service to

the field of dance in Philadelphia and beyond.

At thINKingDANCE, we write about what artists do with respect for the labor and intentions that go into the making of art. We care about writers engaging with this work from the perspective of their intersecting identities. We come from the communities we write about, and artists and readers have let us know this increases our trustworthiness as critics.

This year, our 13th, we published 92 new articles and reached over 27,000 readers. People from over 140 countries read performance reviews, essays, book reviews, and interviews published on our site, connecting us to our broader communities. By donating to thINKingDANCE, you are helping us carve a path for experimental, equity-focused writing.

As we move into 2025, we will be working with designers to craft a new website for tD that reflects the excellence of our writing. This new site will have enhanced accessibility and navigation features to allow deeper access to our new writing and full archive. We do this work thoughtfully, and thoughtful work takes time and resources.

Your gift will help us achieve these goals.

Here's how:

100% of your donation supports thINKingDANCE. Contributions of any size are welcome and appreciated!

#WhytD

We asked our writers why thINKingDANCE matters to them, and what keeps them committed to the work of writing about dance.

“Because this group of writers and artists is one of the most thoughtful I am a part of! We help each other shape our ideas about how embodied art is shaping the world and how to document that for this and future generations.” - Miryam Coppersmith

“So that there is a tangible record of an experience that otherwise exists only in memory or immediate physical response.” - nikolai mckenzie ben rema

“Being able to share my impressions of another artist’s work is a privilege! The idea of being one of many ‘official’ - or at least published - voices around art gives me relevance in an ever-changing world…” - Rhonda Moore

“to connect with other sensitive, thoughtful, encouraging, intelligent, and creative artists that offer perspectives i could not imagine, and provoke me to be more open, curious, and grounded.” - desire amaiya

“I write for tD because I believe in artists covering artists! Artists supporting artists!” - Madeline Shuron
